Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called on the Black Stars to display greater dedication and passion when they wear the national team’s colors.
This appeal comes ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan, following a disappointing start to the qualification campaign.
Disappointing performances
The Black Stars have struggled in their AFCON qualifiers, suffering a defeat against Angola and drawing with Niger.
Ahead of the Sudan match on Thursday, the GFA President met with the team at their hotel in Accra, expressing his frustration over their lack of commitment on the field.
Mr. Okraku voiced his concerns, saying the team’s recent performances have been lackluster, with some players showing a lackadaisical attitude.
He emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the pride and passion expected from representing Ghana.
Call for passion and aggression
“The minimum Ghana expects is a group of boys who will show passion and desire to play for the country,” Mr. Okraku stated. “Either you decide to play for the 30 million people or not play, then you will never be selected.”
He urged the players to take pride in wearing the national jersey and show aggression and desire to win for their country. Reflecting on the team’s disappointing draw against Niger, Okraku added, “What we saw of you against Niger was a complete no. When we draw games and I see guys laughing, it is not acceptable. The 30 million people are suffering.”
A critical double header
Currently sitting third in Group F with just one point, the Black Stars face a critical double-header against Sudan, which could determine their chances of qualification for AFCON 2025.
The team will need to improve their performances to secure the much-needed points and restore confidence among Ghanaian football fans.
With high expectations from the nation, the GFA President’s message is clear: the Black Stars must show commitment, pride, and a fighting spirit in their upcoming games.
