In a revelation that has sparked widespread debate within Ghana’s entertainment circles, dancehall heavyweight Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., widely known as Shatta Wale, has disclosed that he officially retired from active music three years ago.

The surprising statement was made during an interview with veteran broadcaster Bola Ray on Thursday, May 28, 2026. It has since generated intense discussion among fans, industry players, and cultural commentators, largely because the “On God” hitmaker continues to maintain one of the most visible and energetic presences in Ghana’s contemporary music and entertainment space.

During the interview, Bola Ray directly questioned Shatta Wale on whether he had achieved sufficient financial stability to step away from the music industry, given its reputation as both lucrative and demanding. In response, the artiste stated confidently and without hesitation: “I retired three years ago.”
