Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has reaffirmed his support for Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as Ghana’s best choice for leadership at this pivotal time.
Describing Dr Bawumia as a “man of destiny,” Ex-President Kufuor highlighted his confidence in Dr Bawumia’s abilities to lead the country through current challenges.
He cited Bawumia’s vision, deep economic expertise, and innovative governance approach as key strengths that position him well to address Ghana’s complex issues.
Ex-President Kufuor recalled the criticisms he faced when he first endorsed Dr Bawumia, but he remains unwavering in his support, asserting that the NPP flagbearer’s leadership could guide Ghana to a new stage of development.
Reflecting on Dr Bawumia’s track record, Ex-President Kufuor praised his foresight, particularly in handling economic challenges and implementing progressive policies.
“I was attacked for calling Dr Bawumia ‘a man of destiny,’ but I know why I said that. I think he’s the best man Ghana needs at this moment in our history. Ghanaians should give Dr Bawumia a chance,” Ex-President Kufuor stated, urging the nation to consider Dr Bawumia’s potential as a transformative leader.
Reflecting on his first encounter with Dr Bawumia in 2002, Ex-President Kufuor shared that he was immediately impressed by Dr Bawumia’s presentation at an international conference in London, where he was a Research Assistant at the Bank of Ghana.
Impressed by Dr Bawumia’s insightful presentation, Ex-President Kufuor recalled congratulating him and feeling a sense of prophecy, telling him to “carry on the light” as he believed Dr Bawumia was destined for greatness.
This early interaction, according to Kufuor, cemented his belief that Dr Bawumia was “a man of destiny.” His conviction in Dr Bawumia’s potential was later validated when Nana Akufo-Addo selected Bawumia as his running mate in the 2008 elections.
Under Ex-President Kufuor’s presidency, Dr Bawumia was appointed as Deputy Governor of BoG in 2006, marking a pivotal moment in his public service career.
Ex-President Kufuor emphasized that, in his view, Ghana currently stands at a crossroads and needs visionary leadership to navigate these complex times.
He expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s ability to lead, urging Ghanaians to support him.
“This man is on a mission. A mission determined by destiny. Let’s all support him to continue. Quality leadership is very scarce,” Kufuor stated, urging a focus on the nation’s progress rather than party lines.
He called for a capable team to help Bawumia address the country’s challenges, saying, “We should be talking about the nation and not so much about the party.”
