The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the party with a GH¢3 million donation towards welfare initiatives and the full financing of the party’s ongoing nationwide “Thank You Tour.”
In a two-part contribution, Dr. Bawumia first presented GH¢2 million in January to the party’s National Treasurer, Mr. Charles Dwamena, on behalf of the General Secretary and National Chairman.
A few weeks later, he added another GH¢1 million, bringing the total donation to GH¢3 million in the first quarter of 2025.
The donations, made at the NPP headquarters in Accra, are intended to strengthen the party’s internal welfare systems and provide support for members in times of personal or collective need.
A grassroots commitment
Party executives have lauded the gesture as timely and impactful, especially as the NPP intensifies preparations for upcoming internal contests.
Mr. Dwamena, while receiving the funds, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Bawumia and assured the party base that the money would be used prudently to support welfare-related activities.
“This is more than a financial donation,” Mr. Dwamena noted. “It is a reaffirmation of Dr. Bawumia’s deep concern for the party’s grassroots and his vision for a united, resilient NPP.”
Financing the ‘Thank You Tour’
Beyond financial support, Dr. Bawumia has also taken up the full cost of the party’s nationwide “Thank You Tour,” which began on Wednesday, April 23.
The tour aims to show appreciation to party members and supporters for their dedication during the 2024 general elections, despite the party’s defeat.
The tour is seen as a critical step in reconnecting with the grassroots and reigniting the party’s energy following the release of the Mike Ocquaye report—a post-election review that assessed the factors behind the NPP’s loss at the polls.
Listening, healing, rebuilding
Sources close to Dr. Bawumia say he views this tour not only as a symbolic gesture of gratitude but also as a platform to listen to concerns from the base and guide the party through renewal and reform.
Each regional stop is expected to feature open dialogue sessions between national leaders and local members, as well as messages of unity, reflection, and forward-looking strategy from the flagbearer himself.
Senior party officials, Members of Parliament, and regional executives are accompanying Dr. Bawumia on the tour, further underlining its significance as a party-wide initiative to mend rifts and rebuild momentum.
With these efforts, Dr. Bawumia is positioning himself not only as the NPP’s flagbearer but as a unifying figure ready to lead the party through its next chapter.
