New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has cautioned that a “reset” of the country, as proposed by his main opponent, former President John Mahama, could lead Ghana back to a period of stagnation and missed opportunities.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the nation should instead focus on an “upgrade,” which he believes is essential for continued progress and prosperity.
During a media encounter in accra, which formed part of his broader campaign strategy ahead of the December 7 presidential election, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision for Ghana under the theme “Bawumia Means Business.”
This event was a key opportunity to clarify the NPP’s 2024 manifesto and Dr. Bawumia’s strategic plans for the nation.
Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of media engagement, recognizing the media’s vital role in shaping public discourse.
He highlighted the NPP’s efforts to support press freedom, including the repeal of the Criminal Libel Law and the passage of the Right to Information Bill, and called on the media to thoroughly examine and discuss the NPP’s manifesto.
Central to Dr. Bawumia’s message was the assertion that Ghana’s future lies in upgrading its current systems and infrastructure, rather than resetting to a past characterized by economic uncertainty.
He outlined 14 key commitments, including sustaining economic recovery, job creation, comprehensive tax reforms, building a world-class digital economy, reducing the cost of living, and enhancing public access to information.
These commitments, according to Dr. Bawumia, form a blueprint for transforming Ghana into a prosperous and secure nation.
Dr. Bawumia also stressed the importance of affirmative action for women and girls, expanding educational opportunities, good governance, environmental protection, support for sports and the creative arts, and enhancing national security.
He emphasized that these are not mere campaign promises but integral parts of his plan to propel Ghana forward.
In his address, Dr. Bawumia urged the public and the media to critically assess the proposals in the NPP manifesto, inviting constructive criticism and expressing his readiness to listen to the concerns of all Ghanaians.
He reaffirmed his commitment to free, fair, and peaceful elections, condemning the use of incendiary rhetoric and emphasizing that political campaigns should be driven by ideas rather than intimidation.
Dr. Bawumia’s message was clear: Ghana must continue on its current path of growth and innovation, rather than reverting to the uncertainties of the past.
As the December elections approach, he has positioned himself as the leader ready to guide the nation toward a brighter, more prosperous future, ensuring that Ghana’s upward trajectory remains uninterrupted.
