Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA) and youth activist, Akosua Asaa Manu, has called on new student members of TESCON at the University of Ghana, Legon, and Accra City campuses to remain dedicated to the core principles of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as they embark on their academic and political journeys.
Speaking at the UG-TESCON Alumni Connect and Freshers’ Orientation on Friday, March 28, 2025, Ms. Manu, popularly known as Kozie, urged freshers to embrace discipline, loyalty, and selfless service—values that define the NPP’s political identity.
A party built on struggle and sacrifice
During her address, Kozie reminded students that the NPP was founded through years of political struggle and sacrifice, deeply rooted in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, which opposed military and authoritarian rule in Ghana’s early political history.
She emphasized the importance of understanding and upholding the party’s legacy, urging students to see their membership in TESCON as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic development.
Commitment without inducement
Highlighting the TESCON slogan, “Commitment Without Inducement,” Kozie encouraged students to let this principle guide their political activism and personal lives.
She described it as a reflection of the selflessness and courage of the party’s founding fathers.
“You are the future of this party—but more than that, you are the conscience of this party. Never let your activism become transactional. Let it be transformational. Let your service be grounded in belief—not bitterness. In principle—not profit. In legacy—not lobbying,” she advised.
She further charged the students to uphold integrity and patriotism, stating, “As we prepare for the challenges ahead, remember: you are not just TESCON members—you are standard-bearers of a noble tradition. Let history be your compass. Let integrity be your anchor. And let Ghana always be your reason.”
A platform for student engagement and leadership
The event, which brought together alumni and new student members, provided freshers with an opportunity to engage with experienced TESCON members, learn more about the group’s mission on campus, and gain insights into university life under the theme: “Navigating the UG Experience.”
Organizers from UG-TESCON expressed appreciation to Ms. Manu for her time and mentorship, noting that her engagement was timely and inspiring for the next generation of student leaders.
