Two men have reportedly died after becoming trapped and weak inside a mining pit at Juaboso in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.

The two men are said to have entered the mining pit around noon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, to engage in mining activities but later became weak while underground.

Preliminary reports suggest that excessive heat and inadequate ventilation inside the pit may have contributed to the incident, although authorities have yet to establish the exact cause of the deaths.

The victims reportedly failed to return from the pit by the morning of Sunday, September 27, prompting a friend to enter the site to find out what had happened.

The friend is said to have discovered the two men in a weakened condition and raised the alarm, leading residents and other community members to organise a rescue operation.

The men were subsequently brought out of the pit and rushed to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them dead.

One of the deceased has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as “Churches”, a resident of Juaboso Township.

The identity of the second victim, believed to be from outside the community, was not immediately known.

The incident has renewed concerns about safety conditions at mining sites, particularly the risks associated with underground mining and inadequate ventilation.

However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, with authorities yet to officially determine what caused the two men to become incapacitated and subsequently die.
