Work on 832 TDC housing units set to begin

The Tema Development Corporation (TDC) is set to commence the construction of 832 affordable housing units under Phase 4 of its housing development project.
This announcement followed a recent visit by TDC leadership to the Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
The visit also celebrated TDC’s recognition at the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Awards, where it was acknowledged for its efficiency, leadership, and profitability.

Govt efforts to address housing deficit
The new project is a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to address the housing deficit in Ghana, currently estimated at over 1.8 million units. TDC has already completed Phases 1 to 3 of its housing project, delivering a total of 1,072 units to both public and private sector workers, significantly contributing to the availability of decent housing in the country.

Minister’s Praise for TDC
At the meeting, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah praised TDC’s leadership for its consistent performance and its pivotal role in providing affordable housing.
He also commended the corporation for its awards at the SOE event, noting that these recognitions reflect TDC’s quality leadership and commitment to its mandate.
“Your recent recognition at the SOE Awards is a clear indication that TDC is on the right path. You’ve demonstrated that state-owned enterprises can be profitable, efficient, and lead in terms of delivery.
“The government is proud of your accomplishments, and we are confident that the 832 units under Phase 4 will be another success,” the Minister remarked.

Phase 4: A national housing strategy
Minister Oppong Nkrumah emphasized the government’s focus on housing as a critical sector for Ghana’s development.
He noted that the completion of 1,072 units in previous phases has provided much-needed relief to families in search of affordable homes.
The 832 units planned for Phase 4 are part of a broader national strategy aimed at addressing the housing deficit.
“The 832 units in Phase 4 is part of a broader national strategy to address the housing deficit in Ghana. We are committed to ensuring that these homes are built to a high standard and remain affordable for the average Ghanaian. TDC has proven itself capable, and we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition,” Oppong Nkrumah added.

TDC’s commitment to affordable housing
The Managing Director of TDC, Alice Abena Ofori-Atta, expressed gratitude for the government’s support and confirmed that the corporation is ready to commence Phase 4.
She highlighted that the success of Phases 1 to 3 has laid a strong foundation for the new project, which will further expand affordable housing options in Tema.
“We have already completed Phases 1 to 3, delivering 1,072 quality housing units to the market. Our new Phase 4 will add 832 more units, which we expect to meet the high demand for affordable homes in the country. We remain committed to ensuring that the houses we build are not only affordable but also meet the highest standards of quality,” she said.

Modern construction technology and accessibility
The Managing Director noted that the 832 units would be built using modern construction technology to ensure durability and sustainability.
She assured that the project would be completed within the set timeline and would be accessible to both public and private sector workers, with flexible payment and mortgage plans to enhance affordability.

Govt’s continued support for housing development
Minister Oppong Nkrumah reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting housing development initiatives across the country.
He emphasized that housing remains a key priority for the Akufo-Addo administration, and the government will continue to invest in projects aimed at reducing the housing deficit.
“The government recognizes housing as a critical area for national development. We are working to ensure that all Ghanaians have access to affordable and decent housing.
“TDC’s work in this space is vital, and we are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure that this project, along with others across the country, is completed successfully,” the Minister said.

Future collaborations for housing projects
Minister Oppong Nkrumah also hinted at future collaborations with other stakeholders to develop additional housing projects across various districts.
These collaborations aim to decentralize affordable housing solutions and bring them closer to the communities that need them the most.
