Health and wellness for drivers
Fit2Drive aims to equip drivers with essential tools for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, offering education on regular health screenings and stress management.
As part of the programme, Vivo Energy distributed health equipment, including thermometers, glucometers, and blood pressure readers, to transport unions, ensuring drivers have access to basic health checks.
Collaboration with NRSA
The Acting Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, highlighted the importance of integrating road safety into the national agenda, particularly with an election year on the horizon.
Historical data suggests a rise in road accidents during election periods, prompting the NRSA to take preventive measures and engage political leaders to address the issue.
Mr Adonteng also stressed the need for drivers to prioritize their health, citing instances of drivers operating vehicles despite dangerously high blood pressure levels.
He reiterated the NRSA’s support for Vivo Energy’s efforts, ensuring that the Fit2Drive programme will have lasting impact.
New road safety measures
Adonteng took the opportunity to update drivers on new road safety measures being introduced, such as electronic fines for traffic violations.
Drivers who fail to settle these fines on time will face compounded penalties, which will be linked to the issuance of vehicle roadworthiness certificates by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The Fit2Drive programme is part of Vivo Energy’s broader commitment to promoting road safety and ensuring that Ghana’s roads remain safe for all users.
