The Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters deployed with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has been hit by a missile strike as tensions escalate between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the attack occurred between 17:45 and 17:52 local time on Friday, March 6. Two Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured, while another officer suffered psychological trauma.

The strike also destroyed the battalion’s Officers’ Mess, which was completely gutted by fire.

Military officials said the injured personnel are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are in stable condition.

Plans are underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further medical care.

The Armed Forces further indicated that the remaining troops are safe after seeking refuge in underground bunkers during the attack.

In response, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ghana), has formally protested to the United Nations in New York City, calling on all parties within the UNIFIL operational area to honour their responsibility to safeguard UN peacekeepers.
