President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo joined football loving Ghanaians to celebrate the Black Stars following their 3-2 victory against South Korea at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.
After their opening-day defeat against Portugal, the senior national football returned to winning ways against South Korea in Group H, as they secured maximum points.
Goals from Salis Mohammed and Kudus Mohammed secured victory for Ghana.
Salis, the Southampton defender put Ghana ahead in the 24th minute before Ajax FC’s Kudus doubled the lead with a fine header ten minutes later.
In the 24th minute, Jordan Ayew took the ball and sent a long-range pass into the Korean’s 18-yard and Salis capitalized on a melee to tap the ball into the back of the net.
Jordan Ayew’s close-range cross evaded goalkeeper Kim Seunggu, and Kudus head the ball into the bottom right corner.
Gue-Sung Cho scored in 58th minute and three minutes later Gue-Sung ran scored the second goal for South Akorea to pull parity.
Seven minutes after Korea’s equalizer, Kudus struck the ball into the left to win the game for Ghana.
Kudus was named the man of the match following his stellar performance.
The victory is a major boost for the team as they seek to progress to the next round of the tournament.
“Kudos to the Black Stars. Hard fought, but thoroughly well-deserved victory against South Korea.
“Proud of the entire team and the unalloyed support given to them by all Ghanaians. Now to the final group stage game against Uruguay,” he wrote on Twitter.
Around the country, football lovers hit the streets in a jubilation celebrating Ghana’s victory over South Korea.
They displayed miniature Ghana Flags, or anything in the national colours.
Some commercial and private vehicle drivers blew their horns in celebration of the Black Stars.
Others trooped to drinking bar and food joints to eat and drink as part of the celebrations.
It is the hope and prayer of football loving Ghanaians that the Black Stars will beat Uruguay and make it to the round of 16.
The Black Stars will be seeking to avenge their painful quarterfinal loss against Uruguay back in 2010 as the two sides lock horns on Friday, December 2, 2022 in the last group game.
A win for the Black Stars will automatically qualify them for the round of 16.
