Kwame Governs Agbodza has terminated the contract for the reconstruction of the Bogoso road project, citing the contractor’s poor performance and failure to meet agreed timelines.

The Roads and Highways Minister announced the decision during an inspection tour of road projects in the Western Region, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the critical stretch.

According to the minister, the contractor failed to deliver on key aspects of the project despite several warnings and opportunities to improve performance.

He noted that the government could no longer tolerate delays that continue to affect commuters, businesses, and residents in the area.

Speaking on the issue during a tour, Agbodza explained that the company had been urged on several occasions to return to the site and continue the work but failed to demonstrate sufficient commitment.

“He’s been persuaded on countless occasions… the Nananom have spoken, encouraging him, and he’s done less than 1% so far. He doesn’t show the commitment to do the work,” he said.

The Minister added that the Chief Executive of the ministry will begin the necessary procedures to formally terminate the contract.

The Bogoso road serves as an important transportation route for mining activities, trade, and movement within the Western Region. However, years of deterioration and delayed rehabilitation works have caused frustration among motorists and local communities.

Residents and drivers have repeatedly complained about the poor state of the road, especially during the rainy season when sections become nearly impassable. Some community leaders have also called on the government to expedite work to reduce accidents and transportation challenges.

Following the termination, the Ministry of Roads and Highways is expected to begin processes to engage a new contractor to continue and complete the project.

The minister assured residents that the government remains committed to improving road infrastructure across the country and ensuring contractors adhere strictly to project timelines and quality standards.
