The Volta Regional Police Command has destroyed approximately eight acres of suspected cannabis plantations at Peki Dzake in a major anti-narcotics operation aimed at tackling illegal drug cultivation in the region.

The exercise was conducted by officers from the Command’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLU) after intelligence reports pointed to the existence of illicit drug farms in the area.

The Director of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Dotse Gablah, said the discovery underscores the persistent challenge of illegal cannabis cultivation in parts of the Volta Region.

He noted that the Command remains committed to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to track down individuals involved in the cultivation, distribution, and trafficking of narcotic substances.

According to DSP Gablah, the Police will continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement measures to dismantle drug networks and ensure offenders are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He also called on residents to play an active role in the fight against illicit drugs by reporting suspicious activities to the Police, stressing that public cooperation is essential in curbing the menace.

DSP Gablah assured community members that any information provided would be handled with the highest level of confidentiality to protect informants.

He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to safeguard communities from the dangers associated with drug abuse and trafficking, urging citizens to work closely with law enforcement agencies to reduce drug-related crime.

The operation forms part of the Ghana Police Service’s broader strategy to clamp down on illegal drug production and trafficking nationwide while enhancing public safety and maintaining peace and security.

The Volta Regional Police Command says it will sustain similar operations across the region as it intensifies efforts to eliminate illicit drug activities and uphold law and order.
