The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expanded the list of delegates eligible to vote in the elections for its National Youth Organiser and National Women’s Organiser, eliminating the need for separate special conferences for the two positions.

Under amendments to the party’s constitution, all delegates below the age of 40 will be eligible to vote in the National Youth Organiser election, while all female delegates will vote in the National Women’s Organiser election.

The changes mean the two positions will be contested as part of the party’s upcoming national elections, with a significantly expanded delegate base compared with previous arrangements.

Speaking to the media on the outcome of the National Council meeting, the Chairperson of the NPP National Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, said the new arrangements had been approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council.

“In this election, all delegates under 40 years will vote, and that significantly increases the number of delegates going to vote for the Youth Organiser. Currently, the number sits over 2,000.

“For the Women Organiser, every female delegate will vote, as opposed to the previous arrangements where we had the Women Organisers and their deputies. All these arrangements have been approved by NEC and Council,” he said.

Mr Opare Ansah explained that the expanded voting base makes it unnecessary for the party to organise separate special conferences for the two positions.

Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye is expected to be declared the winner of the National Director of Communications position on October 3, having been the only candidate to file and secure approval to contest the position.
