The National Identification Authority (NIA) has registered 69,606 children between the ages of 6 to 14 years as of Friday, October 25, 2024.
This initiative, carried out in partnership with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), aims to expand access to essential identification and healthcare services for children.
Dedicated registration centers
Dedicated registration centres have been set up in schools, children’s homes, and other facilities.
Children who are not attending school can go to the nearest school or NIA office to register.
Once registration is completed at a location, the centre moves to the next site to continue the process.
Where to find list of registration centres
The names of schools, the district, and the region where the school is located have been published on the NIA website. They can be accessed at [https://nia.gov.gh/list
First phase targets 3 million children
Out of an estimated 6.2 million children, the goal is to register at least three million during the first five-month phase of the initiative.
Second phase targets 3.2 million children
The second phase will continue at NIA district offices to register the remaining 3.2 million children.
Reducing costs
This collaboration underscores the government’s commitment to improving access to social services.
By using the Ghana Card for identification, the NHIA aims to cut costs by reducing the need to print separate NHIS cards, saving significant funds for the state.
Parents and guardians are urged to ensure their children receive the Ghana Card, which is crucial for accessing healthcare and other public services.
