Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has announced his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once nominations are officially opened.

In a statement addressed to party members, Abdul-Hamid explained that his decision comes in response to sustained appeals from grassroots supporters who have urged him to contribute his experience and institutional knowledge toward strengthening and rebuilding the party.

He described the call as a strong appeal to service, noting that he carefully reflected on it before deciding to put himself forward.

According to him, his ambition is driven not by personal gain but by a commitment to give back to the party that has played a significant role in his political development.

Abdul-Hamid highlighted his long-standing association with the NPP, dating back to its early years.

He noted that he was a founding member of the University of Cape Coast branch in 1992 and was present at Victoria Park in Cape Coast during the symbolic transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP on May 18, 1992.

Over the years, he has sought leadership roles within the party, including bids for National Organiser in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005, although he was unsuccessful in both attempts.

Despite these setbacks, he emphasised his continued dedication to the party, citing his decade-long service as spokesperson for then-presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as well as his role as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 general elections.
