Middle East war: Govt begins evacuation of Ghanaians in Qatar

The Government of Ghana has initiated the evacuation of its citizens in Qatar following escalating tensions in the Middle East that have raised security concerns across the Gulf region.

The evacuation process, being coordinated by the Ghana Embassy in Doha, is intended to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals amid growing uncertainty surrounding the regional conflict.

Embassy urges Ghanaians to register

In an official notice, the embassy has asked Ghanaian nationals—including students, workers and visitors—who wish to leave Qatar to register with the mission to enable authorities to organise evacuation arrangements.

Officials say the move forms part of a broader contingency plan to protect Ghanaians living in the region should the security situation deteriorate further.

Rising regional tensions

The evacuation follows a surge in military activity and retaliatory strikes among countries in the Middle East, heightening fears of wider instability.

Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated emergency response protocols across its diplomatic missions in the Middle East.

As part of these measures, embassy staff in Iran were earlier evacuated, while Ghanaians living in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates have been urged to remain cautious and comply with safety advisories issued by local authorities.

Officials say there have been no reports of Ghanaian casualties linked to the ongoing conflict.
