Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Ghana’s former Vice-President and 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife, Samira Bawumia, have been safely relocated from Qatar to another country, diplomatic sources have confirmed to Accra-based Joy FM.

The relocation was coordinated by Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region following direct instructions from the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Acting on behalf of the Government of Ghana, the Minister directed all Ghanaian embassies in the Middle East to take immediate and necessary steps to guarantee the safety of Dr Bawumia, his spouse, and members of their delegation.

Diplomatic officials subsequently engaged host country authorities to facilitate swift and discreet travel arrangements. While operational specifics have not been disclosed for security reasons, officials familiar with the process describe it as seamless, carefully managed, and executed with a high level of coordination.

Beyond the relocation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its commitment to protecting the welfare of all Ghanaian nationals within the region.

Government sources indicated that monitoring efforts have been intensified in response to the evolving security situation, with embassies placed on heightened alert.

Authorities said consular teams remain on standby to provide emergency assistance, evacuation support where necessary, and timely updates to affected citizens.

The government has also encouraged Ghanaians living in or transiting through high-risk areas to maintain close contact with the nearest Ghanaian mission and adhere strictly to official advisories as the situation continues to unfold.
