President John Dramani Mahama has departed for France to participate in a high-level global health summit, alongside scheduled bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties and advance discussions on critical global health challenges.

The summit brings together world leaders, policymakers, and health experts to address pressing issues such as healthcare accessibility, disease prevention, and strengthening health systems worldwide.

Mahama’s participation highlights Ghana’s ongoing engagement in international efforts to improve healthcare delivery and promote sustainable health initiatives across developing nations.

During his stay in France, Mahama is also expected to hold talks with President Macron. These discussions will focus on deepening cooperation between Ghana and France in areas such as healthcare, economic development, education, and investment.

Both leaders are anticipated to explore opportunities for partnerships that can benefit their respective countries, particularly in strengthening public health infrastructure and fostering innovation in the medical sector.

According to a statement from the Presidency signed by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit will begin with President Mahama’s participation in the 2026 One Health Summit in Lyon, a high-level global gathering focused on health systems, food security, and coordinated responses to global health challenges.

The President, who is the founder and driving force behind the Accra Reset Initiative, will co-chair the summit’s high-level segment alongside President Macron on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

President Mahama is expected to deliver two keynote addresses at the summit. The first will take place during a session on global health architecture, which is co-chaired by Emmanuel Macron and the Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

In his second address, he will present Ghana’s stance on global health security, while also outlining the country’s commitments to tackling emerging health challenges.

After the summit, President Mahama will travel to Paris on Wednesday, April 8, for bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening Ghana–France relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors such as health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.

During the visit, he will also meet with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, at the Senate House prior to the engagement at the Élysée Palace.

The statement indicated that President Mahama will return to Accra shortly after completing his engagements in Paris.
