The authorities at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have announced Thursday, October 15, 2026 as th official date for the reopening of the university for the 2026/27 academic year.

All freshmen are expected to report to campus on the said date. Continuing students are, however, to report on campus on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Lectures are however scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.

This announcement follows an earlier announcement postponing the opening of the school, due to the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA)over an unresolved dispute on salary disparities and conditions of service.

This strike had stalled the administration of the various public universities and had cast a shadow over the prospect of public universities opening for the new academic.

Still in the realm of university education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed all public universities in the country to reopen their campuses by Friday, October 16, 2026.
