The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) has restored power to parts of the capital following an electrical fault at the Mallam Substation, which led to a fire on a major transformer on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The fire cut off electricity to parts of the city.

GRIDCo reported that the fault happened around 2:36 AM, causing one of the transformers at the station to catch fire. The Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly to the scene and managed to put out the flames safely.

Electricity has already been turned back on in some of the affected areas, and workers are working to bring power back to the remaining neighbourhoods as quickly as possible.

(GRIDCo engineers are trying to figure out what caused the fault in the first place, while processes are underway to replace the damaged transformer.
