An amount of $5.1 million was spent on Ghana’s participation in the just-ended 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Youth and Sports Minister Mr. Mustapha Ussif who announced this said Ghana budgeted $8.1 million to be spent on the Black Stars at the group stage.
The amount is to cater for per diems, flights arrangement, bonuses, medicals, equipment, logistics, hospitality, and appearance fees at the group stages.
Ghana exited at the group stage, winning a match against South Korea and losing to Uruguay and Portugal.
The Black Stars were eligible to qualification bonus to the round of 16, hence missed out on a winning bonus despite picking a win against the Asian side.
Addressing Parliament on Ghana’s appearance at the World stage, Mr. Ussif, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency said: “Our estimated budget at the group stage was $8.1million.
“Out of this estimated budget Mr. Speaker, our total expenditure for the group stage participation amounted to $5,171, 840.
“These expenditures covered appearance free, per diem, flight arrangements, medicals, equipment logistics, and hospitality.”
Ghana’s budgeted expenditure up to the semi-finals stage of the tournament was $14.1 million.
Last eight stage expenditure
If the Black Stars had progressed to the last eight stage, expenditure would have increased to $9.5 million ($ 9,512,200).

$1.5m FIFA money for preparations
Ghana received $1.5 million from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after qualifying for the Mundial to augment the team’s preparation towards the tournament.
Various prize money
FIFA will pay $9 million if Ghana qualifies from the group stage, and the amount will increase to $13 million after progressing to the knockout stage.
Ghana will receive $17 million if the team qualifies for the quarterfinal stage and a whopping $42 million if Ghana becomes the first African country to book a semi-final berth.
