Bullion Van attack at Ablekuma Fan milk: 2 suspects arrested

The Kaneshie District Court has remanded into Police custody two persons for their alleged involvement in daylight bullion van attack, which led to death of a police officer at Ablekuma Fan milk.

The accused persons are Benjamin Ojogbe, unemployed and Rashid Abdul.

Their accomplices are said to have bolted with GH₵145, 163.08.

According to the Police, the accused persons were picked up at Circle Railways while they were “enjoying themselves” at about 1:30am.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder of Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah. Their pleas were not taken.

The accused persons in the bullion Van attack are expected to reappear before the court presided over by Nana Abena Asor Owusu Amenyo on July 24.

Videos of the incident show members of the public rescuing the fatally shot policeman from a pick-up truck.

The police officer was only identified as Lance Corporal Calystus Amoah according to his name tag.

The truck with registration number GT 1254-10 was attacked shortly after stopping at the fuel station.

The vehicle stopped at the fuel station to pick up cash.

The driver of the truck, however, escaped unhurt during the attack.

The police officer was said to have been shot multiple times in a suspected robbery attempt on occupants of the van at a fuel station at Ablekuma.

The Ghana Police Service in a statement said the suspected robbers followed the van, which went to refill at the fuel station, where the shoot-out occurred.

It said the policeman was seated in a passenger seat in front of the vehicle on security duties when he was shot at close range.

The Police said investigation was underway.

Armed robbers have to obtain accurate information on when cash is moved in and out of a financial institution or bank.

This will mostly be the work of least suspected people like a neatly dressed young guy or an innocently dressed lady hanging in the vicinity.
