Ghana’s U-17 women’s national team, the Black Maidens, delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, sweeping aside Liberia with a 6–0 victory in the first leg of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier.
From kickoff, the Black Maidens asserted control of the match with sharp passing, high pressing, and relentless attacking play that left the Liberian side struggling to settle. Ghana’s forwards were in fine form, converting early chances and effectively putting the tie beyond Liberia’s reach before halftime.
Their dominance continued in the second half, with the Black Maidens maintaining pressure and adding more goals to complete a comprehensive rout. Their defensive line also remained solid, ensuring a clean sheet and denying Liberia any clear scoring opportunities.
Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side had two goals ruled out for offside inside the opening 25 minutes before finally taking the lead in the 31st minute. Jessica Appiah made a strong run down the left flank and teed up Daniella Abass, who finished clinically from close range to open the scoring.
Despite Ghana’s dominance and a string of chances, they went into halftime leading just 1–0 after missing several opportunities.
After the break, captain Seidatu Wahab extended the lead from the penalty spot following a handball inside the box. Ghana added a third soon after when defender Linda Achiaa surged forward, beat the goalkeeper, and calmly finished.
Substitute Priscilla Mensah made an immediate impact, assisting Jessica Appiah for the fourth goal before also scoring herself to make it 5–0.
Mavis Yeboah rounded off the performance late in the game, exploiting Liberia’s high defensive line to seal a convincing 6–0 win for the Black Maidens.
The result gives Ghana a strong advantage heading into the second leg of the qualification tie, with confidence high within the squad as they aim to secure a place at the U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Black Maidens will now turn their attention to preparing for the return fixture, where they will look to finish the job and confirm their qualification in style.
