BEST provides laptops to 50 UMaT students

The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BEST) has donated laptops to 50 students at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), in Tarkwa, to support their studies as part of a four-year scholarship package program.

The beneficiary students are already part of the company’s scholarship programme, selected from across its host communities across the country.
The Deputy Managing Director of BEST, Joseph Kpemka, speaking at a brief ceremony to present the laptops to the needy but brilliant students in Tarkwa, highlighted the initiative as a corporate social responsibility effort aimed at empowering students.
“The laptops will facilitate access to information, online research, and academic work,” Kpemka stated.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to positively impacting society, particularly through supporting talented but financially challenged students from the company’s impacted communities in the country.
“By providing these laptops, BEST aims to remove barriers to learning and help these students succeed academically,” he added.

BEST plans to monitor the students’ academic progress and their post-graduation activities.
Mr. Kemka promised that those who excel in their final exams would be considered for employment opportunities at BEST, subject to available vacancies.
The beneficiary students are pursuing various degree programmes like petrol-chemical engineering and other related fields.
As part of BEST’s support, the fees of the beneficiaries for the duration of their studies have been catered for in addition to paying for their accommodation and a monthly stipend.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Director of Education, Catherine Biney, expressed gratitude to BEST for its support.
She urged the students to value the assistance and to demonstrate their appreciation by excelling in their studies.
Biney praised BEST for its contributions to enhancing education in Ghana.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of UMAT, Anthony Simmons, while lauding BEST for the initiative, he urged the beneficiaries to succeed in order to motivate the company to continue to support others in the host communities.
