Asaase Foundation, 10 others donate to Children’s Hospital

Asaase Foundation, the Corporation Social Responsibility platform of Asaase Broadcasting Company Limited and some 10 groups have donated some items to support the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital (PML) in Accra.

The donation was to help the children’s hospital in their annual Christmas party and to create a sense of belonging for the Children.

The items include footballs, branded t-shirts, cadle toys, money, sun hats, educational materials, school bags, food, water, pastries, cartons of drinks, biscuits, water bottles among others.

The 10 groups are Ayo insurance, a subsidiary of MTN, Ken and Ofori Attah foundation, Former Ambassadors Wives Association (FAWA), St. Rose’s Old Students Association (ROSA), Nights and ladies of Marshalls, Salt and light Ministry, Office of the First Lady, the Office of the Second lady, Staff of PML and Reverend Father Andrew Campbell.

The theme for the celebration was, “Asaase cares: building up to the PML’s Christmas party.”

The President of Asaase Foundation, Kojo Mensah said that the Foundation chose Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital for the celebration because it is the oldest and dedicated hospital in the middle of Accra which is sometimes overlooked.

He disclosed that the foundation as part of its support for the celebration paid for the food, branded t-shirts for the children as well as toys to be taken along.

He noted that as part of their support to the hospital, they are going to work with the malnourished unit to help raise awareness and money to support malnourished children.

He indicated that the pillars of the foundation hinged on children, women and any health related issues.

Second Lady Mrs Samira Bawumia also at the ceremony commended the staff of Princess Marie Louise Hospital for their continuous work to tirelessly save lives.

“The challenges that you strive to overcome in order to put a smile on the faces of children; privileged and underprivileged, is commendable” she said.

She stated that this period teaches that Christmas is a time to share our good fortune with those in need.

Mrs. Bawumia urged parents present at the programme to make the lives of young ones better especially during this period of Christmas.

On behalf of the First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, she donated eighty cartons of assorted drinks, ten bags of rice, five boxes of nose marks, 10 cartons of candies and sixty-one cartons of biscuits.

She congratulated the hospital for 97 years of comprehensive and accessible health services in the prevention and management of childhood illnesses.

Reverend Father Andrew Campbell in his Christmas message said that the Christmas party ushers the hospital into the Christmas festivity and the New Year.

He noted that Christmas is all about Christ and that the focus of Christ shouldn’t be taken out of the Christmas festivities.

He urged individuals to start the Christmas day by making it a special day with special activities such as church attendance and merry making.

“Make Christmas this year a happy day with your family by going to church, playing games and spending time together” he stressed.

The Medical Superintendent of the Princess Marie Louis Children’s Hospital, Dr. Maame Yaa Nyarko expressed her excitement for the love and support shown by Asaase Foundation and the other groups during the handing over ceremony.

She stated that the hospital has some challenges with its building infrastructure, supply of consumables, patients unable to pay their bills, lack of some basic equipment and human resources.

According to her, the hospital faces infrastructural challenges considering the number of children they provide service to daily.

“We are 97 years old, so a lot of the things there are quite old. We had some new buildings but there is a lot of pressure in the hospital so we need support with other areas,” she explained.

She thanked stakeholders for their support and called for more help in solving the challenges they face as a hospital.
