With just a few matches remaining in the qualifiers, 19 teams have secured their spots in the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, set to be hosted by Morocco.
Following Friday’s Matchday 5 results, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Comoros have joined the growing list of nations that will compete in Africa’s most prestigious football tournament.
Nigeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon also clinched their places on Thursday, confirming the participation of several of Africa’s football powerhouses.
The lineup features a blend of regular AFCON contenders alongside rising forces in African football, setting the stage for a dynamic competition.
Host nation Morocco qualified automatically and will be joined by early qualifiers Senegal and Algeria, both of whom demonstrated consistent performances throughout the qualifiers.
Egypt and defending champions Côte d’Ivoire add their legacies to the tournament, bringing formidable records of AFCON successes.
Several teams are making a return to the continental stage.
DR Congo, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea are back and looking to make a significant impact, while Uganda and Gabon aim to advance deep into the tournament.
For South Africa, this qualification marks a promising return to the AFCON stage after a strong showing at the last competition in Côte d’Ivoire.
There are still five places available in the 24-team tournament with qualifying continuing through Tuesday.
The qualification phase is still ongoing, with Matchday 6 scheduled for next week to confirm the final lineup of 24 teams.
Anticipation is building as top African teams and emerging challengers vie for the remaining slots, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown in Morocco 2025.
