Otto Addo names 23-Man squad for Angola, Niger AFCON 2025 qualifiers

Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has unveiled a 23-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger. Notably absent from the list is veteran forward Andre Ayew, who was also left out of the squad for the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The return of key players such as Inaki Williams, Joseph Paintsil, and Majeed Ashimeru is a significant boost for the Black Stars.
These players missed the previous call-ups due to injuries but are now fit to join the squad.
However, the team will be without several players, including Salis Samed, Gideon Mensah, Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Ibrahim Sulemana, all of whom are sidelined due to injuries.
During a press conference in Accra, Coach Otto Addo addressed his decision to exclude experienced players like Andre Ayew and Daniel Amartey once again.
“As I mentioned before, we have to look a bit further to the next AFCON and possibly the next World Cup if we qualify. We need to plan for the long term, focusing on the development of the team over the next three years. Although the matches are getting tougher and expectations are high, it’s important to prioritize our long-term goals,” Addo explained.
Ghana’s Black Stars will kick off their AFCON 2025 qualification campaign against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5. They will then travel to Morocco to face Niger on September 9.
