The Upper East Regional Police Command has dismantled a suspected robbery gang linked to a series of attacks targeting motorbike riders and mobile money vendors in Benaba, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, Zebilla and nearby communities.

The Police, during a follow-up operation with some of the suspects, retrieved a cache of weapons and motorbikes allegedly connected to the gang’s activities.

The operation took place at a location in the Tilly Forest where the suspects had indicated that their rifles were hidden. However, upon reaching the location, the Police team came under gunfire.

Three suspects—Amadu Apiiga, 33; Philip Vokbilla; and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley—were injured during the exchange of gunfire. Bilal Adabode, who led the Police to the location, was among those wounded.

The three suspects were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Other individuals believed to have sustained gunshot wounds fled the scene.

Two Police officers were also injured during the operation and are receiving medical attention.

According to the Police, the suspects are also linked to the killing of a Police officer during a robbery attack at Zebilla on February 8, 2026.

Among the items retrieved are two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, two pistols, including a BRUNI 92 pistol with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 18 BB live cartridges.

The Police also recovered three sharp cutlasses, four unregistered Yamaha Aerox scooters, a pair of black boots, a motorbike number plate and two mobile phones.

The Police have appealed to members of the public to report anyone found with suspected gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.

Six other members of the gang who were arrested earlier remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. Police say efforts are continuing to arrest other suspected members of the gang and establish the source of the weapons.
