A tragic road accident on the Kumasi–Accra Highway has claimed the lives of three people and left about 20 others injured, sparking concern over road safety along one of Ghana’s busiest transport corridors.

The crash reportedly involved a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number DV G8180 driven by Richmond Kuman and a Benz Sprinter with registration number GE6024-22, driven by an unidentified person near the Rider Iron and Steel Company, where multiple passengers whose identities are yet to be officially confirmed.

The crash occurred at Odumasi-Ohene Nkwanta.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured, involving three deceased males from the scene and handed them over to the Police MTTD at Konongo.

However, the 20 individuals who sustained injuries have been transported to Hope Care Hospital, Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital, and RIS Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were also conveyed for preservation and further identification procedures.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident, but investigations are expected to examine possible factors such as speeding, driver fatigue, or mechanical failure—common contributors to highway crashes in the country.

The Kumasi–Accra route remains one of Ghana’s most heavily used highways, connecting the capital to the Ashanti Region and serving thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles daily. It has also been the site of multiple serious accidents in recent years, raising ongoing concerns about road safety enforcement and driver behaviour.
