A 30-year-old woman, Mavis Nkrumah, has been arrested for allegedly pouring acid on her former boyfriend in Ablekuma FanMilk, a suburb of Accra.

According to Greater Accra Regional Police preliminary investigations, the incident occurred in the early hours of May 28, 2025, when Mavis showed up unannounced at the residence of the victim, 29-year-old taxi driver Gideon Frimpong, around 1:00 a.m.

A statement released by ASP Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, on Friday, June 6, 2025, indicated that Mavis and Gideon engaged in a brief conversation during which she asked him to give her a ride home. Gideon agreed.

While en route, they reached a rough stretch of road at Ofankor, known as the 7Days area. Gideon asked Mavis to get out of the car, explaining that his vehicle could not handle the terrain ahead. At that point, Mavis confronted him about their breakup.

After he confirmed for the third time that their relationship was over, she allegedly poured the suspected acid on him.

Bystanders quickly came to Gideon’s aid and rushed him to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained during the attack.

Mavis fled the scene but was later apprehended by police on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, as she attempted to flee the country. She is currently in custody and assisting police with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, Gideon Frimpong has been discharged from the hospital after receiving medical care.
