President John Dramani Mahama has called for a stronger commitment to empowering women across Ghana, emphasising that investing in women leads to broader national development.

In a message marking International Women’s Day 2026, the President highlighted the critical role women play in transforming families, communities, and the nation’s economy.

According to him, the progress of any country is closely tied to the opportunities and support given to women and girls.

“When we give opportunities, resources, and unwavering support to our women, we gain as a country. We have seen time and again that when women are empowered, entire families and communities are transformed,” he stated.

The President urged Ghanaians to work collectively toward removing obstacles that hinder women from reaching their full potential. He stressed the need to create more pathways for women and girls to succeed in education, leadership, entrepreneurship, and other sectors of society.

“Let us commit ourselves to breaking down barriers, creating pathways to success, and ensuring that every Ghanaian woman and girl has the chance to reach her full potential,” he added.

Reflecting on this year’s celebration theme, “Give to Gain,” the President said it serves as a reminder that investing in women yields lasting benefits for society as a whole.

“As we observe International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme ‘Give to Gain,’ let us remember that every investment we make in empowering our mothers, sisters, and daughters multiplies into prosperity for our entire nation,” he noted.

International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year to recognise the achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.

The President’s message adds to growing calls across the country for stronger policies and initiatives to expand opportunities for women and girls in all areas of national life.
