Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, has admonished young people to act with purpose and intentionality as they prepare for an increasingly competitive and unpredictable world of work, urging them to prioritise impact over titles in shaping their careers.

She delivered this message at the 2026 Success Africa Summit held at Akuafo Hall at the University of Ghana.

Addressing over 150 students under the theme “Purpose at Work: Building Impact Beyond Job Title,” Mrs Wiafe challenged the youth to rethink conventional definitions of success and instead anchor their ambitions on purpose-driven action.

“Purpose is who you are. Title is what you do,” she stated. “When you chase titles, you limit your growth. But when you are driven by purpose, you go beyond expectations and create real impact.”

Drawing from her professional journey, she noted that career paths are rarely straightforward, encouraging students to embrace uncertainty and seize opportunities—even those that may seem unfamiliar or uncomfortable.

“Sometimes the opportunity will not look like you. Take it anyway and do the work,” she advised, stressing the importance of courage and adaptability in navigating modern career landscapes.

She emphasised that young people who distinguish themselves in the workplace are those who demonstrate initiative, consistency, volunteerism, and integrity—qualities she described as critical to building trust and unlocking opportunities.

“Don’t wait to be told. Volunteer. Offer help. Deliver more than expected. That is how trust is built and doors open,” she said.

Beyond mindset, Mrs Wiafe offered practical guidance on career readiness, urging students to focus on the fundamentals, including developing error-free curricula vitae, building strong portfolios through internships, and gaining hands-on experience to remain competitive.

On international opportunities, she cautioned against pursuing global exposure for its own sake, advising instead that students concentrate on creating value within their current environments.

“Most international opportunities come because of what you have already done where you are,” she explained. “Create value where you are, and the world will find you.”

She also highlighted the importance of resilience, reminding participants that setbacks are an inevitable part of growth and should not deter them from their long-term goals.

“Success is built over time. Stay engaged, keep learning, and keep showing up,” she encouraged.

In her closing remarks, Mrs Wiafe urged students to be deliberate about their personal and professional development, constantly reflecting on their values and purpose.

“Ask yourself: Who am I beyond the title? What do I stand for? Because when you are driven by purpose, you do not just work—you lead,” she said.

The summit also featured interactive sessions where staff of MTN Ghana engaged participants on practical aspects of digital living, including responsible money management through digital payment platforms, effective data usage, and affordable bundle options tailored to support academic needs.
