WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Provisional Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for candidates in Ghana.
In a statement signed by Mr. John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC announced that the results of 4,108 candidates had been cancelled due to the use of foreign materials in examination halls, while the entire results of 483 candidates were similarly annulled for similar infractions.
Additionally, the Council disclosed that it had withheld the subject results of 781 candidates and the entire results of 209 candidates for various suspected offenses, including alleged collusion. Subject results from 319 schools are also under investigation for similar allegations.

Outcomes pending investigation
WAEC noted that the withheld results might either be released or permanently cancelled depending on the outcomes of ongoing investigations.

Fluctuations in performance
The provisional results indicated fluctuating performance trends in English Language, Social Studies, and Integrated Science over the past four years, while Mathematics showed an upward trajectory during the same period.

Access to results
WAEC has provided login credentials to heads of schools to access their candidates’ results. Additionally, candidates can check their results online at the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.
The Council also issued a caution to stakeholders to beware of fraudsters who claim to offer result upgrades for a fee. “Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated using its results verification system. The WAEC QR code can be downloaded and used to verify results,” the statement emphasized.

2024 WASSCE candidate statistics
This year, 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools, registered for the examination. This represents a 2.66% increase over the 2023 figure of 448,674. However, 4,609 candidates were absent from the examinations.
WAEC’s announcement reiterates its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examination processes and ensuring fairness and transparency in the release of results.
