Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, Hamza Suhuyini, has ruled out the likelihood of President John Dramani Mahama extending a presidential pardon to former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, Suhuyini acknowledged that the Constitution empowers the President to exercise the prerogative of mercy. However, he maintained that President Mahama’s leadership style suggests he would not interfere with the judicial process.

According to Suhuyini, the President is more inclined to allow the courts to determine the matter without political intervention, emphasizing that accountability should apply to all public officials regardless of party affiliation.

He stressed that Ghana’s democratic development depends on a strong commitment to the rule of law and public accountability, arguing that there should be a shared national consensus on ensuring public office holders answer for their actions.

“As for a presidential pardon, I don’t see it happening, and many sound-minded Ghanaians would not want it to happen. It is within the legal remit of the land. But knowing President Mahama, he will allow the legal process to take its full and due course,” he said.

The former MASLOC boss had earlier been convicted in absentia after failing to return to Ghana following medical travel to the United States in 2021. On April 16, 2024, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour.

She and her co-accused, Daniel Axim, were found guilty on 78 charges, including stealing, conspiracy, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and causing loss to public property.

Prosecutors alleged that the offences involved millions of Ghana cedis in losses, unauthorised financial commitments, and breaches of procurement regulations during their tenure at MASLOC.
