The Police have arrested two people in Accra over alleged bribery linked to the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), with the suspects accused of taking money from students and parents in exchange for securing placement in preferred senior high schools.

The suspects have been identified by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as 24-year-old Vicentia Appiah Antwi and 18-year-old Suzzy Owusu.

Police investigations indicate that the two allegedly demanded and collected between GH¢9,500 and GH¢22,000 from individuals, depending on the senior high school they wanted to secure placement in.

The suspects are also reported to have mentioned Nana Yaw Boateng, a medical doctor at Kwadaso Hospital in Kumasi, and Alex Asumani, popularly known as Lexus, as alleged accomplices in the scheme.

Interrogation

After being interrogated by the Police, the two suspects were granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue to locate and arrest the other persons allegedly involved.

They were arrested at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday by a team from the Ministry of Education following directives from Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

The arrests followed complaints made by some victims, including twin sisters, who reportedly brought the alleged bribery demands to the attention of the minister. The victims also provided evidence suggesting that the suspects had approached them with offers to facilitate their placement into their preferred senior high schools in exchange for money.

The Ministry of Education, in a statement, said the minister immediately alerted the security agencies after receiving the complaints and examining the evidence provided.

The suspects were subsequently arrested at the Resolution Centre, where the alleged transactions were being pursued.
