Sedina Tamakloe back to Ghana after extradition order

MASLOC Sedina Tamakloe Sedina extradited prison

Former MASLOC CEO, Sedina Tamakloe Attionu

Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), has been brought back to Ghana from the United States to begin serving a 10-year jail term imposed by the Accra High Court.

Attionu arrived at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday morning aboard United Airlines flight UA 996. The aircraft landed at about 9:01 a.m. after departing from Washington Dulles International Airport in the United States.

According to sources with knowledge of the extradition process, security personnel met her on arrival and placed her in custody. She is currently undergoing standard debriefing and medical examinations ahead of her transfer to the appropriate correctional facility.

Her extradition marks the culmination of efforts by Ghanaian authorities to secure her return after she remained in the United States following what was initially described as a medical trip and did not return to face ongoing legal proceedings.

The former MASLOC boss had earlier been convicted in absentia after failing to return to Ghana following medical travel to the United States in 2021. On April 16, 2024, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour.

She and her co-accused, Daniel Axim, were found guilty on 78 charges, including stealing, conspiracy, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and causing loss to public property.

Prosecutors alleged that the offences involved millions of Ghana cedis in losses, unauthorised financial commitments, and breaches of procurement regulations during their tenure at MASLOC.
