The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a 37-year-old security guard, Mohammed Abubakari, popularly known as Wofa Abu, to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling an 8-year-old girl at Anyinam near Ahenema Kokoben.

The court convicted Abubakari after he pleaded guilty to the offence and admitted his involvement in a caution statement given to investigators during the police inquiry.

Prosecutors told the court that the incident occurred on June 27, 2026, when the convict allegedly lured the victim and her friend to his security post under the guise of sending them on an errand.

The prosecution said Abubakari later separated the two girls, asking the victim’s friend to wait at another location before taking the 8-year-old into a kitchen, where the assault occurred.

The incident was uncovered after the victim shared her experience with friends, who later informed her mother. The matter was subsequently reported to the police on July 11, 2026.

Following the report, the victim was issued a medical form and taken to the Suntreso Government Hospital for examination and treatment. A medical report presented to the court confirmed that the child had suffered injuries consistent with the offence.

After considering the facts of the case, presiding judge His Honour Isaac Appiatu found Abubakari guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with hard labour.

The sentence serves as a reminder of the serious legal consequences associated with offences against children and the need for continued efforts to protect minors from abuse.
