Report proffers solutions to vested lands controversies

A significant step towards resolving longstanding issues surrounding vested lands in Ghana has been taken as the five-member Committee tasked with reviewing a preliminary report presented its findings and recommendations to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor.
Their report is expected to inform government policies and actions aimed at resolving these issues once and for all.
With the submission of this comprehensive report, stakeholders, including traditional leaders, title holders, and landowners, can anticipate a step closer to the resolution of vested land issues, offering hope for a more equitable and just land governance system in Ghana.
In a ceremony held at the Ministry, the Committee, chaired by lawyer and Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North Constituency, Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, handed over their comprehensive report to the sector Minister.
The report stemmed from a preliminary report on the de-vesting of vested lands submitted by the Lands Commission in 2022.
Mr Jinapor commended the Committee for their diligent work, acknowledging the vital role vested lands play in the lives of traditional rulers and family heads nationwide.
He emphasized the historical complexity of issues surrounding these lands and expressed confidence that the report would provide valuable insights for their resolution.
“This report marks a pivotal milestone in our journey towards resolving the intricate challenges associated with vested lands,” Mr Jinapor stated.
He affirmed his commitment to thoroughly studying the recommendations and forwarding them to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for consideration.
Chairman Appiah Kubi echoed Mr Jinapor’s sentiments, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in the Committee.
He emphasized the significance of their findings in guiding governmental decision-making and hoped that the report would pave the way for equitable resolutions in land-related matters.
The Committee, comprising notable individuals from legal, surveying, and land administration backgrounds, was assembled to provide expertise and guidance in addressing the complexities of vested lands.
