Professor Kobby Mensah, a marketing expert at the University of Ghana Business School, has introduced a groundbreaking software application, Admissions Checker, to streamline the university admissions process for Senior High School (SHS) students.
The innovative tool uses students’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) grades and high school courses to assess their eligibility for admission to various universities and programs.
Empowering students with realistic choices
Explaining the purpose of the software, Prof. Mensah stated, “The software is designed to provide students with realistic choices and opportunities for university admission. Students can receive a report indicating their admission opportunities in percentage terms by inputting their academic records.”
He further highlighted the complexities of the admissions process and emphasized that the tool empowers students to make informed decisions about their academic futures.
“With Admissions Checker, SHS students can now embark on their academic journey with confidence, armed with the knowledge of their eligibility for esteemed institutions and sought-after courses,” he noted.
How the platform works
The platform operates by requiring users to input details such as their high school courses, WASSCE grades, and demographic information.
Robust algorithms then process this data to produce a detailed report of their admission chances.
Early assessment for SHS students
A standout feature of Admissions Checker is its utility for students still in high school.
For instance, SHS 1 students can input their terminal examination results to evaluate their eligibility for university admission.
“This feature enables students to assess their readiness for university admission early on, helping them secure a strong performance in their final year,” Prof. Mensah explained.
By tracking their progress and identifying areas for improvement, students can adjust their study strategies ahead of their WASSCE exams.
Eliminating uncertainty in admissions
With its ability to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of admission opportunities, Admissions Checker seeks to remove the uncertainty and confusion that often accompany the admissions process.
Prof. Mensah’s innovation aims to become an invaluable resource for students as they navigate their academic journeys.
