The family of Ms. Lois Abena Koranteng is seeking justice and demanding answers regarding the circumstances leading to her death on June 7, 2024.
They, along with the company she worked for, are urging the Ghana Police Service to release the findings of their preliminary investigations into the death of the 24-year-old Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) graduate.
The silence from the police has fueled speculations about the possible cause of Ms. Koranteng’s death and is damaging reputations.
Compounding the situation, the hotel where she was staying has been unable to provide Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage, claiming their cameras were not functioning at the time.
Ms. Koranteng had travelled with her senior colleague and a driver to Takoradi in the Western Region for a business trip on June 7, 2024, where she met her untimely death the following day.
Reports indicate that she had been in contact with her family during the trip, with plans to return home after completing her tasks.
Tragically, the following day, her family received a phone call informing them that Ms. Koranteng, the youngest of three siblings, had died under questionable circumstances.
According to Aaron Koranteng, the deceased’s brother, the family received a call around 5:30 am the next day, stating that Ms. Koranteng had been found dead in the hotel’s swimming pool.
Her lifeless body was sent to the hospital, and the police had begun their investigation when close family members arrived at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding how Ms. Koranteng, who had checked into her hotel room to sleep after her evening arrival, ended up in the swimming pool remain unclear.
The family was later informed that she left her hotel room around midnight to swim.
Information indicates that, the hotel receptionist informed Ms. Koranteng’s senior colleague that the deceased had decided to use the pool around midnight.
The receptionist discovered her body in the pool, clad only in a bra and knickers.
Despite efforts to rush her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Questions remain about how she was allowed to use the pool at such a late hour if that claim is indeed true.
An autopsy conducted by the police revealed no blood stains or cuts on her body.
Aaron Koranteng stated, “Last Monday, we engaged the police, and upon request, the body was released to Korle-Bu where we all witnessed the autopsy.
“But we are yet to receive the final report as a family since the police are using it for their investigations.”
As the family waits for answers, the call for justice for Ms. Koranteng continues, with many seeking clarity and accountability for the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death.
