Two armed robbery suspects were shot dead by the Tema Regional Operations Team on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, following a violent attack on a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Community 5.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female vendor sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while attempting to resist the attackers.

According to a police statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects arrived on a motorbike and posed as customers. One of them approached the vendor under the pretense of making a “cash-out” transaction.

As the vendor reached for her phone to process the request, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash. A struggle broke out when she resisted, prompting the rider to join his accomplice. During the confrontation, the pillion rider shot the victim in the leg, allowing them to seize the money and flee the scene.

A police patrol team from the Regional Operations Unit, which had been strategically deployed nearby, quickly intercepted the suspects in the vicinity of Tema General Hospital. The suspects ignored orders to stop and sped off toward the Smart Hotel area, firing at officers during the pursuit.

Police returned fire, hitting both suspects and causing them to fall off their motorbike. They were subsequently transported to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival by a medical officer.

Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and identification.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of items believed to be linked to the robbery and other criminal activities. These included GH¢11,390 suspected to be the stolen money, a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, multiple SIM cards, a talisman, and the victim’s Ghana Card.

Police also retrieved an empty bullet shell from the crime scene, believed to have been discharged from the suspects’ weapon.

The injured vendor is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The Tema Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety in the metropolis and has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
