Pelpuo: Nana Addo recruited 12,000 after 2024 election loss

The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has alleged that the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo recruited about 12,000 people into the public sector after losing the 2024 general elections.
In an interview with Accra-based FM, Dr. Pelpuo said although the Chief of Staff initially directed that the last-minute appointments be revoked, only a portion of the recruits were eventually dismissed following the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to him, the President ordered a halt to the process to allow a review and ensure those employed had followed proper recruitment procedures.
“We haven’t even removed all the 12,000. At one point, the president asked us to stop it because they are all Ghanaians, and so we should just check to make sure those who were employed truly passed through the system.
“At that point when he made that pronouncement, nobody was removed again. I can’t give the right figure that was removed but I don’t think it is even up to 5,000,” he said.
Dr. Pelpuo added that while some appointments were terminated after the initial directive, many of the recruits remain at post.
“There were so many that were employed by the NPP during the year of their loss but yes, they are working. Unfortunately, at the earlier pronouncement some had to be taken away but so many more are working today,” he added.
