A pastor and his alleged accomplice have been arrested by police for reportedly attempting to bury a baby alive in a shocking incident that has sparked outrage at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The head pastor, identified as Apostle Dr Richmond Akwasi Frimpong of the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, and his accomplice have been taken into police custody.

The two were arrested by police in Bibiani after a community member raised an alarm.

The informants alerted authorities after allegedly witnessing the duo digging a shallow pit while holding an infant under troubling circumstances.

An eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, said that at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, he spotted the pastor and his accomplice at a refuse dump with a baby under suspicious circumstances.

He said he approached them and realised the child was still alive, prompting him to raise an alarm.

“The baby was not dead; they intended to bury the child alive for reasons best known to them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, disclosed that the pastor had earlier informed him that the child was dead and requested a burial site.

He added that he was unaware the baby was still alive.

Police in Bibiani have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The baby has been taken to the Abofrem Clinic, where it is receiving medical treatment.
