Residents in parts of the Greater Accra Region should expect a 15-hour power supply interruption commonly known as ‘dumsor’ on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) continues work to replace a damaged transmission tower at Ashaiman.
The planned interruption will take place between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., allowing GRIDCo to carry out the next stage of repairs on the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.
The transmission tower was reportedly damaged after a tanker exploded nearby, affecting the integrity of the line.
GRIDCo, in a statement dated Saturday, August 22, 2026, said its technical teams would take advantage of the scheduled interruption to safely complete the outstanding replacement works.
The company explained that the nature of the exercise would require power to be temporarily cut to some communities and locations in the Greater Accra Region.
GRIDCo said it is coordinating with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to reduce the disruption and its effects on affected customers.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this interruption will cause and request the patience, understanding and cooperation of the public as GRIDCO works progressively to complete this critical work,” the statement concluded.
