The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service over alleged controversial remarks.

He was picked up on Monday, April 13, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into claims of offensive conduct, false publication, and statements likely to incite fear and panic.

Although official charges have not yet been announced, sources indicate that the arrest may be linked to alleged threats directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court—an issue that has raised concerns within legal and governance circles.

Party officials say they are still working to understand the exact circumstances surrounding his detention.

“Currently, our understanding is that he is at the Police CID Headquarters. We have sent the National Organiser to the place but we have not been able to ascertain the particular reason,” Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, told Joy News.

The development has sparked mixed reactions, with supporters defending his outspoken style, while critics argue that his public comments often cross acceptable limits.

This is not the first time Abronye DC has faced scrutiny from law enforcement over his remarks. He was previously detained in September 2025 on similar allegations.

The Police CID is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue, while the NPP regional chairman remains in custody.
