The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for further action following her recent media engagements regarding internal party issues.
In a statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party noted that Adwoa Safo’s public comments violated party directives aimed at maintaining unity and discipline within its ranks.
The party emphasized that, as a former MP, Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State, Adwoa Safo was expected to uphold the principles of “discipline, loyalty, and unity” that define the NPP.
The statement cited Article 3(5) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates members to promote and defend the good name of the party.
Party directs members to avoid public outbursts
The NPP has also issued a directive cautioning its members against discussing internal matters in the media in ways that could create disunity or disaffection within the party.
Signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the statement acknowledged the disappointment and emotional distress among party members following the last election defeat but urged members to exercise restraint and allow internal processes to address grievances.
“As an officer of the party, mandated by the party’s Constitution under Article 10(7)(5) to coordinate the activities and operations of the party, please note that all party members are hereby directed to immediately cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement read.
Potential consequences for violators
The party warned that any member who disregards this directive will be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committees at the national, regional, or constituency levels for possible sanctions.
Citing concerns that public outbursts could further deepen divisions within the NPP, the leadership urged all members to support efforts to rebuild the party.
Call for unity and strengthening the party
Reiterating its commitment to unity, the party called on all members to uphold the values of the NPP and work towards strengthening the party for future electoral contests.
“Let us uphold the values of the NPP and work together to rebuild a stronger party for the future,” the statement concluded.
