The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has held a high-level consultative meeting with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his private Labone office on Friday, January 9, 2026.

The engagement is part of a broader series of strategic consultations aimed at ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible process as the party works toward selecting a new flagbearer for the next general elections.

Sources close to the committee indicate that discussions at the Labone meeting centred on the integrity of the voter register, dispute-resolution mechanisms, and measures to avert potential tensions among aspirants.

In his capacity as a respected party elder, former President Akufo-Addo is said to have stressed the importance of a level playing field to prevent internal divisions that could threaten the party’s electoral prospects.

The Labone engagement is seen as a significant step toward securing the confidence and institutional support of the former President, whose influence continues to resonate strongly within the party’s core base.

Ahead of the primaries, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is already captured among NPP supporters as the clear favourite to lead the main opposition party into the next general election.
