The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has signed a cooperation agreement with Russia’s ruling United Russia party, signalling a commitment by both sides to strengthen political relations and expand inter-party collaboration across Africa.

The agreement was signed on June 25, 2026, in Saint Petersburg during a working meeting of the Standing Committee for the Freedom of Nations! Movement.

The signing followed bilateral talks between Andrei Klimov, a member of the Supreme Council Bureau of United Russia, and the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

In a statement issued after the meeting, both parties acknowledged the growing parliamentary engagement between Ghana and Russia and expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation between their respective political organisations.

Dr Asiedu Nketia praised Russia’s historical role, as the successor state to the Soviet Union, in supporting anti-colonial struggles.

He also reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to the ideals and objectives of For the Freedom of Nations! Movement.

As part of the agreement, the two parties pledged to encourage stronger collaboration among political parties across the African continent, with a particular focus on strengthening ties in West Africa.

They also emphasised the need to intensify political engagement ahead of the third Russia–Africa Summit, describing the event as a key platform for enhancing cooperation between Russia and African nations.

The cooperation agreement represents another milestone in the evolving relationship between the NDC and United Russia, while complementing the broader diplomatic and parliamentary ties that continue to develop between Ghana and Russia.
