Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing and commissioning a 30-bed Children’s Unit project at the Tafo Government Hospital before the end of the year.

The former party executive disclosed that the project, which was initiated as part of his 40th birthday celebration initiative five years ago, has reached 85% completion and is on course for completion within the set timeline.

The project, named “Nana B @40”, was conceived as a personal contribution towards improving healthcare delivery, particularly paediatric care, after he became concerned about the poor condition of the existing children’s unit at the Tafo Government Hospital.

The completed project is expected to significantly expand paediatric healthcare capacity at the hospital, with facilities designed to improve both outpatient and inpatient services for children.

The paediatric outpatient department (OPD), which will be located at the right wing of the hospital, will include a waiting area, two consulting rooms and a treatment room to enhance access to medical care.

The children’s ward, to be located on the left wing, will feature a 20-bed ward, a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) equipped with three intensive care stations, and a special baby care unit (SCBU) with a minimum of five incubators.

Additional facilities will include a nurses’ station, storage room, staff restrooms and washrooms for inpatients.

According to Nana B, the facility was selected because of the urgent need to provide a modern and better-equipped environment for children seeking medical attention, as well as reduce the pressure on healthcare workers and families in the area.

“Five years ago, on the eve of my 40th birthday, I made a personal commitment to God to fulfil one of the deepest desires of my heart: to facilitate the construction of a 30-bed Children’s Ward,” he said.

“That commitment found its purpose at the Tafo Government Hospital because of the deplorable condition of its existing Children’s Ward, which had become a major concern for the Ghana Health Service and the people of the region.”

Nana B said a recent inspection of the construction site gave him renewed confidence that the project would be completed as scheduled, describing the progress made so far as a source of immense personal satisfaction.

“I am filled with immense gratitude and pride each time I visit the site and see the project nearing completion. As of my visit today, the project is 85% complete,” he said.

“Watching this vision steadily become a reality has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling journeys of my life.”

The former NPP National Organiser said he remained hopeful that the remaining works would be completed before the end of the year, paving the way for the commissioning of the facility.

As he prepares to celebrate his 45th birthday, Nana B described the completion of the project as the most significant gift he could receive, stressing that its impact would extend beyond his personal milestone.

“God willing, I will be turning 45 tomorrow. There is no greater birthday gift I could ask for than to witness the completion and commissioning of this facility before the end of the year so that generations of children and their families can receive the quality healthcare they deserve,” he said.

He emphasised that the initiative was not driven by personal recognition but by a desire to create a lasting social impact and support vulnerable children and families.

“This journey has never been about me. It has always been about giving hope, preserving lives, and leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service,” Nana B stated.

He also expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that have supported the project over the past five years, acknowledging that their contributions have been critical to bringing the vision closer to completion.

“I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this vision, and I remain confident that, by God’s grace, we will soon celebrate its successful completion,” he added.

When completed, the Tafo Government Hospital Children’s Ward is expected to become an important addition to healthcare infrastructure in the Ashanti Region, improving access to specialised care for children and supporting healthcare professionals in delivering quality services.
